Ignorance is Pardonable
Christmas – allegedly the birth of Christ – is celebrated in almost all parts of the globe on the 25th of December yearly: a joyful season whose celebrants are ignorant children.
I came from a family of eight (me being the 7th). Being always “borrowed” from my family by my childless Auntie Toyang and Lola (grandma) Pilar, who, being two devout Catholics, loved me as much as my mother did.I can still remember looking for a big sock before I sleep at around 7 or 8 o’clock at the evening of December 24 each year at my aunt’s house. I felt very much at home at my aunt’s house, especially during the Christmas season, where I was excited for the coming of Santa Claus. At our house there is no image of Santa Clause, nor were they waiting for his arrival. My mother became a member of the Church of God as early as 1934. Since then, they have stopped celebrating Christmas like they used to do when they were Catholics. My father and mother were devout Catholics. Until age 17, the coming of the Christmas season lifted my spirits yearly because my aunt and grandma taught me that this is the “greatest time of the year” being the supposed “birthday” of our Lord Jesus Christ. I have learned to respect the Christ of the Catholic Church – ignorantly. In my aunt’s house there was a big statue (even bigger than me) which they call the “sacred heart of Jesus”. I was taught to give the utmost reverence on this statue. I had to bow down my head when I walked in front of it and I could not even point my finger towards it, which I deeply regretted upon knowing the true Christ of the Bible.
The morning of December 25 was a special morning for me because I woke up with gifts inside and around the sock which I hung the night before by the window. Today, as I reminisce the past, I see a pitiful boy in me fifty-seven years ago; but more pitiful are those who have died not knowing what Christmas is and all the practices surrounding its celebration. I am lucky (thank God) to have found wisdom in the most educational book to follow – the Bible.
The story begins from Caesar Augustus that the entire world should be taxed:
Luke 2:1
And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed.
Joseph and Mary, being from the tribe of David, have to travel from Galilee to Bethlehem (which is called the city of David) to be “enrolled” and taxed. This was the particular time of the year when Mary should deliver the child Jesus.
Luke 2:3-7 (RSV)
3 And all went to be enrolled, each to his own city.
4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the city of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David,
5 to be enrolled with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child.
6 And while they were there, the time came for her to be delivered.
7 And she gave birth to her first-born son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths, and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.
On that same evening, the evangelist Luke tells us that there were shepherds in the fields watching over their flock to whom the angels announce the birth of the savior Jesus Christ.
Luke 2:8-11
8 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord.
At this juncture, let us pause for a while and think. Could all of these happen on the 25th of December?
No Roman emperor as wise as Caesar Augustus (refuted to have changed the political and financial system of the Roman Empire to start a “new order”, which firmly established the empire for the next two centuries and was called as the “Golden Age of Rome’s Empire”), will order a census for the purposes of taxation, on December or in winter – rendering it impossible for Christ to be born on December 25 when the landscape of the Holy Land was filled with snow, making it very difficult to travel. Using simple common sense, no shepherd will bring out his sheep at night when fields were covered with knee-deep snow. The infamous term “three kings”, incidentally, is not mentioned in the Bible, wouldn’t have traveled to look for a new-born baby – in winter!
Matthew 2:1-6
1 Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,
2 saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.
3 When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.
4 And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born.
5 And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judea: for thus it is written by the prophet,
6 and thou Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, art not the least among the princes of Judah: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel.
It is hard to believe that the “three kings” traveled alone on such a considerable distance in winter.
David, being a king that he is, travels with six hundred men with him. It is a pitiful sight to behold “three kings” travelling all by themselves.
1 Samuel 23:13
Then David and his men, which were about six hundred, arose and departed out of Keilah, and went whithersoever they could go. And it was told Saul that David was escaped from Keilah; and he forbore to go forth.
The complex errors created by the Catholic celebration of Christmas have gone too far in influencing even supposedly intelligent composers and songwriters. The First Noel has a very beautiful melody, but has disgusting lyrics influenced by the ignorance of the Catholics belief on Christmas. The line “on a cold winter’s night that was so deep” made stupid out of the shepherd by bringing their flock on a winter’s night.
“The First Noel, the Angels did say
Was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay
In fields where they lay keeping their sheep
On a cold winter’s night that was so deep.
Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel
Born is the King of Israel!”
To add insult to the ignorance, the church in Rome assigned the birth of Jesus on December 25 which was the feast of the pagan sun god of the Roman Empire.
Christian Overlays of Christmas
Two important contributions that the reign of Constantine wrought were the establishments of the dates of Christmas and Easter. However, neither holidays are unique and original to the church, they are overlays of much earlier traditions, and both are connected to the sun, the former to the winter solstice and the latter to the vernal equinox. Again, the passage of the sun across the ecliptic demonstrates the astronomical motif that has been grafted onto the Christian god.
Constantine may not have completely established the date of Christmas, but what is clear is that he had considerable influence in setting the date of December 25 as Christ’s birthday. After Constantine’s victory, in perhaps 320 or 353 C.E. the church decreed that December 25 would become the standard day of observance for the birth of Christ. However, this date had long been recognized in antiquity as the return of the sun, for in ancient times, before the establishment of the Gregorian calendar, December 25 was the date of the winter solstice, the point when the sun has reached its southern most trek below the equator, where it appears to stand still for three days…
…Pope Julius I, in the fourth century commanded a committee of bishops to establish the date of the nativity of Jesus. December 25 (the day of Sol Invictus, the invincible sun) was decided upon. Not coincidentally, that is the day when the “pagan world celebrated the birth of their Sun Gods-Egyptian Osiris, Greek Apollo and Bacchus, Chaldean Adonis, Persian Mithra-when the Zodiacal sign of Virgo (the sun is born of a virgin) rose on the horizon. Thus the ancient festival of the Winter Solstice, the pagan festival of the birth of the Sun, came to be adopted by the Christian Church as the nativity of Jesus, and was called Christmas” (Crosbie). The church found itself:
The wise men (not the three kings) followed a star (not hanging on a “tree” because there was no tree associated with the birth of Jesus) to locate the baby Jesus on a house and not on a manger because no loving parents would let their new-born baby to tarry on manger. They eventually moved to a house as the crowd that came to Bethlehem who filled all the inns during the height of the census period presumably have turned back home.
Matthew 2:9-11
9 When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was.
10 When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.
11 And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshiped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.
The facts about…
Christmas tree
Santa Claus
The errors that resulted from ignorance on facts are uncorrectable. Until today, Santa Claus dominates the landscape on Christmas season. Catholics were not duly informed of the disappearance of Santa Claus in their roster of saints. If we are to adopt the international concept of Ignorantia juris non excusat, which historically came from the Roman Empire itself, many Roman Catholics will be losing their salvation because of a belief on a false Christ born on a false date, surrounded with false teachings, and a celebration so highly commercialized — unreachable by the poor for whom the real Christ was born for; but, ignorance is pardonable upon the acceptance of truth.
This topic to follow God willing.

ReplyDeleteSalamat sa Dios sa isang bagong blog post by Mr. Controversy X. When we learn to accept the truth, ignorance is indeed pardonable. To God be the Glory!
ReplyDeleteUpon reading this wonderful BLOG of Mr. Controversy we will come to the understanding why Christ wasn't born on December 25. Thanks be to God for giving me the opportunity to know the truth!
ReplyDeleteWhat a very timely blog Mr Controversy. It is totally wrong to say that Christ was born on Dec. 25 wherein the Bethlehem and Jerusalem is covered in snow.
ReplyDeleteDec 25 is the date where the pagan sun god was born. The true Christ of the Bible is not a sun god but a Son of God.
Thanks be to GOD for a wonderful blog.

Hoping forward for the continuation of this very enlightening topic. Thanks be to God!!! :-)

ReplyDeleteDuring my late-teen year till age 25, christmas is never good without getting wasted. =)
I thank God and Christ Jesus for opening my eyes.
Now I see what I used to do. And I find it foolishness.
Thanks be to God and Christ Jesus for sending Bro.Eli Soriano and Bro.Daniel Razon.
I'am thankful to God for getting me out of this belief about Christmas of the Catholics. I pity those who is up to now is being mislead of this kind of teachings. But just what Mr.Controversy had said ignorance is pardonable. I hope that they may come to a point of realizing that this Catholic belief or tradition about Christmas is not biblical.
ReplyDeleteAmen
ReplyDeleteChristmas has been a big industry of lies and deceit associating the birth of Christ to gifts by an old hairy big fat man on a red suit, to every good child. We were deceived for hundred and hundreds of years by money making companies, wanted to sell their products, ideas and stories to every family who wanted to have a merry day.
ReplyDeleteThank God there is bro. Eli, who exposes these tradition, making our ignorance pardonable if we would just take some time to read this blog!
Happy reading. To God be the glory!

A tree from the forest is cut down and worked with an axe by the hands of a craftsman. They decorate it with silver and gold; they fasten it with hammer and nails so that it cannot move. Their idols are like scarecrows in a cucumber field, and they cannot speak; they have to be carried, for they cannot walk. Do not be afraid of them, for they cannot do evil, neither is it in them to do good.” ...

ReplyDeleteI used to believe in Santa Claus and the whole of my childhood is spent hanging super big socks in our Christmas tree every December. Even if I knew already that the one always putting gifts in my socks is my supermom, I continuously do so every year. Stupidity talaga. Thanks be to God because my children will not experience the stupidity I had experienced when I was young.
This blog should be included in textbooks so the children will know the truth about Jesus` birthday.
Glory to God!
Thanks be to God for sending Bro. Eli to teach the real doctrine in the Bible.
ReplyDeleteIt is a pitiful sight to see children adapting this kind of unbiblical, unjustified and unsupported doctrine of Catholics.
ReplyDeleteThanks be to God we have awakened from false beliefs about "christmas". Biblically and logically, Brother Eli is correct on his analysis of christmas. Christmas, as celebrated by many people is not in the Bible.
ReplyDeleteYour blogs never cease to amaze me Brother Eli. It tackles the seemingly complex biblical wisdom and makes it simple for us to understand. And your courage to expose the misconceptions about the bible is so admirable. More power to you and your blogs Brother Eli.

ReplyDeleteI believe that ignorance is pardonable when the truth dawned and the ignorant turns to change heart. This only become possible for those with a spirit of longing for the truth. This very detailed presentation of Bro Eli about the lies holding the catholic christmas celebration will make the truthseeker to think past the emotional and sentimental cage created by the life long exposure to a gratifying event .The road to change will be very lonely unless he finds himself cared by brethren in the true church of God.
ReplyDeleteIgnorance is indeed pardonable.

ReplyDeleteMay this blog be an eye opener to all people from different walks of life.I just hope that wrong traditions esp christmas & holy week will be removed from non-Christians bec its unbiblical! Thanks be to God for this thorough explanation and for giving us light in this umportant subject.Once again,a very good article from mr controversy
ReplyDeleteChristmas and Santa Claus are just part of a big lie that Satan devised against GOD and His Christ. We are blessed that the Church of GOD has been warned to know what's going to be like in the last days. If we are, as we believe we are, then a question left to ponder in my mind that how are we going to act when everybody knows in the Church of GOD that the world is heading to its horrible end?
ReplyDeleteThere is great necessity to finnish the work of GOD. In Matthew 8:21-22, one of Jesus disciples asked him to bury his dead but Jesus said, follow me and let the dead bury their dead. That was 2000 years ago. It was long enough to ponder, even then Jesus knew it very well. It was written not to mock the truthfulness of the word of GOD but to let us know the necessity to finnish his work in his time or may be in our time.
Everyone of us in the Church of GOD becomes a part of the last days, Hebrews 1:2. Our leaders have never taken a break of propagating the salvation of GOD. They are like Jesus telling us to follow them and be united to fulfill the work of GOD While the world are enjoying and merry making the tradition of lies.
My wife and I never celebrate Christmas ever since we joined the Church of GOD. We are telling the same thing to our children. Somehow in my heart a desire to help bro. Eli and bro. Daniel, and not to be bothered by the necessity to live. I always wanted to do Matthew 6:33 that seek ye first the kingdom of GOD, and all these things shall be added unto you. My thoughts always wanted to have these things but the necessity to follow Jesus is always a priority no matter what lies ahead. I hope GOD will always be with us in this faith.
This is a reality that most catholics, because the gospel in the Holy Scriptures/Bible is veiled to them whose minds, due to unbelief, are blinded by the god of this world that they might not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ who is the image of God [2 Corinthians 4: 3-4] Bro. Eli Soriano is sharing the truth written in the Holy Scriptures/Bible to all but, the Lord Jesus said, "No one can come to Me, unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up on the last day." [John 6: 44]
ReplyDeleteThanks be to God for the unspeakable gift.

ReplyDeleteSalamat sa Dios sa napapanahong Blog na ito kapatid na Eli,maraming mga tao lalo na mga katoliko ang walang mala'y tungkol sa paniniwala nila. Thanks be to God.
ReplyDeleteAs a Catholic for 36 years, I have often questioned myself why an actual birth date was designated for the birth of Christ --- which in a shallow reasoning makes me think that those who were born on the 25th of December must be the luckiest people in the world. Which catholic kid would not take pride in saying ..."Jesus and me have the same birthday?" Having said that, it just rings a bell and raises a flag. There is something wrong with that picture.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I must say that every catholic kid has had a memorable christmas day in their lives, I also wondered why I felt depressed most of the time in my childhood on every Christmas day. There was always this missing puzzle. I just cannot seem to feel that people are actually celebrating the birth of Christ on Christmas day. All this commercialization made me think that Christmas day is a day of material gift exchanges. Other than that, it's always just been amother day to me.
This timely blog of Mr.Controversy is so informative and factual. If people would only open their minds to the deception of this so called Christmas day, many would realize that fabrications like this December 25 misinformation manifest how untrue catholicism is. And if they can be untrue about an information about Jesus --- they could be untrue in many if not almost all of their doctrines.
Thanks be to God Bro.Eli for exposing this.

ReplyDeleteThe so called Santa Claus to enhance the Christmas spirit of catholics just shows how untrue Christmas day is --especially that it's dedicated to honor and celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. This iconic christmas character which is also ridiculed as SATAN CLAWS is also one of the greatest deception in catholic faith and have been adapted by almost all religions in the world. Imagine a church that designated a date of Christ's birth derived from paganism and to top it all promotes a Santa Claus which is lateral in equivalence to enhance the celebration? That alone is scary to the thought right there.
ReplyDeleteHow different is this from the atheists spaghetti monster? Santa Claus riding a chariot of flying reindeers? It couldn't get better than that.
The logic of Bro Eli about the 3 kings who travelled away from their kingdom by themselves is phenomenal. I have never heard of any religious leader who even noticed such discrepancy. While others may have already realized that December 25 could not be the date of Christ's birth, no one even noticed that the wise men that visited were not numbering to three nor are they kings as the Catholic projects of them. Bro Eli finds this ignorance inexcusable.
Be it known that Bro.Eli does not expose these things to defame or insult anyone. But it is better to speak of the truth and open the eyes of a few than murmur in silence that will be consequential to millions.
Thnaks be to God.

ReplyDeleteI couldn't be more thankful enough that I am no longer practicing and celebrating their traditional belief about December 25th as their Christmas. I am just really thankful, that with God's help and mercy, He has shown me the truth and that we must only trust on what the Bible says and not by myths and invented occasions by people. We should not stick on tradition especially if we know that it is not the truth, we must always focus ourselves on the facts written on the Bible. Nonetheless, I know that the people of God will easily accept His words, no matter how much it would make a huge twist in their lives. Can't wait for more Biblical based blogs! The symbolic birth of Christ on December 25th for Catholics made a way for the name of the messiah to become popular worldwide. One way or the other Christ name was preached. But today many tried to remove "Christ" in Christmas and put "Xmas" instead. Too late! The whole world already knew that GOD sent his Son through virgin birth of mary to save the world. At least the Church of GOD through the preaching of bro. Eli will just correct the mistake and ricochet its target to the true doctrine of GOD.
ReplyDeleteIs the Church of GOD popular enough? In Matthew 24:9, the Lord said that we will be hated by all nations for my name's sake. This is a prophecy. I know we're getting popular as the largest gospel choir. It's starting. But considering this prophecy is a benchmark to where the Church of GOD now. I hope I am wrong but bro. Eli will have his final say. If this prophecy never happen yet then Matthew 24:10 is more alarming. Whoever endure to the end the same shall be saved.
I would like to share my response to a greeting from a sibling in flesh. She greeted me a Merry Christmas and my response was this:
To God be the Glory!
Thanks be to God for Bro Eli and Kuya Daniel.

ReplyDelete"Why don't you give love on Christmas day" goes the lyric of their Christmas song. Meaning, there's an intent to spread love among them, but unwittingly they are celebrating an occasion leading into spiritual perdition. If you and I acknowledge that we have found the narrow old path leading to eternal salvation, or claiming that are already "Christians", then let's share this blog to our friends in the Catholic World and/or other religious faiths believing in yuletide season, so they too will be educated (If they open their hearts and accept the facts of what were written). I'm not well verse where I can find the passage that says, "Love your neighbor as you love yourself", but as far as I'm concern, this is one among the commandment of our Lord Jesus Christ. Let's spread love then by sharing this article. Salamat sa Dios at may Mr. ControversyX. To God Be The Glory!

ReplyDeleteI used to celebrate chrismas before. Since childhood, it was my best season of the year, better than my birthday etc. I can still reminisce the excitement I used to feel comes December - xmas decorating, xmas trees, santa clause, xmas gifts, xmas carol etc. But now, since I've been called into the TRUE Church of God in the Bible, I stop celebrating fabricated practices started by the catholics like their 25th christmas day.
ReplyDeleteI truely thank God for knowing the truth through bro. Eli Soriano. God willing more will be called. (Mga Kawikaan 3:13. Mapalad ang tao na nakakasumpong ng karunungan, at ang tao na nagtatamo ng kaunawaan.) To God be the glory!
When I was young, Christmas was the most exciting and awaited time for me, far more than my Birthday. Decorating Christmas tree, gift wrappings, carollings, Foods and Gifts! But as I grow older, more or less at the age of 10, I feel something is missing... Because I can see that having no money can hinder the Spirit given by Christmas and If I can't receive good gifts from my godfathers and godmothers, if there is no Fried chicken on the table, no Spaghetti or Fruits... It feels really sad. Sometimes i dont want it to come anymore. But when I heard from Bro. Eli that celebrating Christmas is not Biblical it gave me a spark that the feeling of emptiness in my childhood was not only because we are poor or have money but because it is really not TRUE! Thanks be to God!

ReplyDeleteI sincerely thank God for sending you and giving you the knowledge about the bible. your blogs never fail to enlighten my heart :) To God be The Glory!!
ReplyDeleteThanks be to God for an informative blog. I cannot wait for the next article :).
ReplyDeleteIgnorance of the law excuses no one. But ignorance is pardonable if one accepts the truth and opens up its heart and mind to knowledge and wisdom. Let us explore this blog and learn from it.
ReplyDeleteThe term christmas which has been indigenous to the catholic faith and referred to the day the Christ was born was given the date of December 25 without further research of its probability. Why? Because the bible, which has the highest documented authority to prove such veracity and variance was clear about the circumstances enveloping the season Jesus was born . And Bro.Eli elaborated it biblically from Caesar Agustus order of taxation , shepherds in the fields watching over the flocks, three kings who traveled alone, winter season solstice and so on --- which all defies the odds that Jesus was indeed born on December 25.
Also in this blog, we would learn of the brief origin of christmas trees and santa claus which are icons to the occasion but un-biblical.
When I was a kid around 10 years old I must say, I asked myself this question : If christmas is the December the 25th, then the date might have great significance to those of us who was born on December 25. I just find it so unfair that I was not born on the same date so I could say that Jesus and I have the same birthday.
The commercialization of christmas only made the poor realize how poor they really are because they cannot afford to buy gifts. And it had made poor kids realize that there are more fortunate kids than them because they cannot enjoy the spirit of christmas the same way regular kids enjoy it. This is because this so called christmas is not dedicated to the birth of Jesus . It's a tool of the capitalist and politicians in the Philippines to gain favor and be absolved from their wrongdoings by saying the magic word..." It's christmas anyway, so forgot about my transgressions". It's also an excuse for extortion and bribery. And it's used for seeking justice by those who need to pay for their crime but were pardoned in lieu of the occasion. This however is not the what Bro.Eli meant by pardonable. But pardonable in the sense that if we would accept the truth that christmas day being the 25th of December is but one of the greatest mendacity of the catholic church.
Lastly, the character of Santa Claus which I refer to as Satan Claws have dominated the occasion as if it's him.... that it's his birthday that we are celebrating for. So what and where does it all entail? Man made doctrines and unsubstantiated information.
Once again, thanks be to GOD that there is an Eliseo F Soriano who never had second thoughts of exposing the truth.
TO GOD BE THE GLORY!
I enjoyed reading this educational blog which opens the eyes of many readers. Growing up, I attended Miriam College in the Philippines and the school itself enforces the belief of Christmas on December 25. A lot of my previous colleagues and classmates still believe in this false teaching; they still celebrate up to this date.
ReplyDeleteThanks be unto God that I am no longer one of them. At the age of 10 years old, I was blessed to be part of the Flock of Children or also known as "Kawan ng Cordero." To God be the Glory~! Looking forward to more blogs.

ReplyDeleteWow! Another informative and very enlightening blog! Thanks be to GOD!!!! :) :) :)
ReplyDeleteI was taught the same as I was growing up. but when I turned 5, I realized there really wasn't a Santa. I still believed in Christmas. But when I learned about the real Christ, that was a big turning point. Thanks be to God! Thank you bro. Eli. To God be the glory!
ReplyDeleteThanks be to God!
ReplyDeleteI had to recapitulate my approbation of this blog because of its auspicious timeliness. I often hear Bro.Eli teach this in many of his bible expositions where he was asked the same questions in different events by people from different walks of life and religion. As to the once seemingly whimsical sound of christmas carols...which now is but a cacophony of musical instruments accompanied by sentimental songs yet commercially intended for investment. What has christmas become? Are we really celebrating the birth of Christ? Or just another malevolence in disguise?
ReplyDeletePerhaps one of the greatest memory I could recall from celebrating christmas is the Philipine traidition of the "Evening Mass" or "Simbang Gabi" , which if you finished from Dec 16 to Dec 25 on its 9th day of celebration -- as per the catholic belief -- will grant your wish for whatever present or gift you want for christmas. In that case, which part of it embodies the celebration of the birth of Christ? I personally believe that christmas especially in the Philippines is but a cultural and traditional practice , not of faith, but of beliefs that are intended for self accommodation and gratification.
This pernicious belief may seem light in nature. But damage starts from a little hole and can be ubiquitous due to deliberate misinformation and anti-christ doctrines.
Truly, there is nothing wrong about celebrating the birth of Christ.
But let us not add date to it, especially if it's vacuous and undocumented.
If not for the bible, we would believe every date the catholic church would associate to anybody. Like the Virgin Mary being born on September 8th.
TO GOD BE THE GLORY!
Thanks be to GOD for Bro.ELI!!!
